I always thought McCain was one of the good republicans, but this is putting him dangeriously close to the ultra-regressive, head in the sand backwater conservative arena. We need our children to be competetive in the global market, and that means giving them the best science education (and education in general) we possibly can. If people want their children to learn about the biblical creation of the earth, they can go to church.

An Appeal to Authority is also known as an Argument from Authority, in other words the validity of a claim does not follow from the credibility of the source. For instance, my arguing that you should floss three times a day because President Clinton says you should does not follow - just because he's a President does not mean that he has the background to make authoritative statements about dental hygiene.
