As an avid listener of Hip Hop music, I am constantly reminded of the tremendous debt owed to the pioneers of funk (i.e James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Sly Stone, Larry Graham, Maurice White, Bernard Edwards, George Clinton, Ronald "Kool" Bell, to name a few) by today's hottest producers/artists such as Dr Dre, Tim&Bob, Jam&Lewis, DJ Premier, Polow Da Don, Pharell, Kanye West, Pete Rock & Timbaland. Without the fertile field seeded by the pioneers of funk, there would be no Hip Hop to speak of--no Common, no Diddy, no 50, no Jay-Z, no Roots, no Tribe Called Quest, no De La Soul or Black Eyed Peas.
"Funk" is an active verb--it shows that something is happening rather than something having been done. In other words, when you listen to Earth, Wind & Fire's "In The Stone ", Faith Evan's "Good Time " or Cameo's "Candy " , your ass just moves willy nilly in step with the beat & self-consciousness is simply suspended in the sinuous mayhem.
Funk celebrates and includes one and all in its' funky chambers.
