ORIGINAL SKETCHES
Posted on Aug. 26 2006

Quite a few of these sketches were done right after I visited a place but some were done much later ( as and when I found time!)

Animation done by my daughter

It gives me a lot of joy to put down on paper what I have seen and a sense of accomplishment when it is being appreciated by people

National Carillion, Canberra-by Venu.JPG
This is a set of tuned bells played from a keyboard and given to the Australian government as a gift by the British. The monument is built on Aspen island in Lake Burley and is spectacularly lit up at night. When the key board is played generally between 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm, the music drifts across the lake. The Captain Cook fountain can be seen in the near background and also the Black mountain Telstra tower from where one can get great 360 degree views of the capital city.

Chinese junk by Venu.JPG
This is a painting I have done based on a photograph taken in Phuket. The boat known as a Junk has origins in China and is commonly seen in Southeast Asia. Junks usually have around two or three sails but sometimes have four. Each mast is made of bamboo. These days the Junks are usually used to ply tourists around.

castle de chillon, switzerland.jpg
The castle de Chillon located on the eastern banks of Lake Geneva, very close to Montreaux is built on a rocky island and forms a perfect picture postcard of the place. Comprising of nearly 24 buildings and built over a period of time, this was the inspiration to poets like Lord Byron.

A medieval castle in England . This fortress rises majestically from the banks of the River Avon, just a few miles from Shakespeare's Stratford. For centuries, Warwick Castle was home to the mighty Earls of Warwick.

Abra (water taxi) station, Bur dubai, Dubai -by Venu.jpg
The Bur Dubai side of the Dubai creek still is a bustling point for trade. Even though the city has grown rapidly as a metropolis, this side still retains its old world charm with wind towers, souks, abras, small lanes , hustle bustle and nostalgia. The abras(water taxis) still ply people to the Diera side of the creek at nearly 1/10th of the cost if one were to take a cab and in less than 10 minutes.

Hi Venu.  I really enjoy your breezy treatment of all the beautiful subjects.  I can see these scenes through your artist's eyes. thank you so much for the visual interpretations.  They are just splendid!  As well, I see you have favorited my HistoricMuralSeries. Wow you are fast.  I just posted it in the past couple of days.  I also see that you have popped in to see my Skyaak folder.  Venu, what are your thoughts or impressions of Skyaak?  I always savor any feedback I can get from people, as this is my all-time most favorite pet project!

Best wishes....I am a fan!

Your use of colour is lovely - you obviously get a great deal of pleasure and excitement from colours.  You have travelled so widely.  It's a lovely idea to use your travels as a basis for art and your writing about your pictures is so interesting.  You should write at lengthand use your illustrations as an accompaniment: it would make a really great book!...Marie
