Art Deco Birks Sterling Tea Set - The teapot has an ebony handle and finial and the handle has a carved thumb rest, very elegant. Birks is a Montreal based high end department store, still in business today,that produced their own silver ware in the late 19th and early 20th century. These pieces are all stamped"Birks","Sterling "and with Birks hallmarks.
This is a very nice quality sterling silver tea set made by Birks, the "Tiffany" of Canada.The set consists of three pieces, a teapot, a creamer and a sugar bowl.All three feature art deco form and are decorated with an engraved scroll and floral design.Price £  650.00      View List page 10

Dutch 'knottenkistje'Volgens oeroud gebruik vroeg een jongen een meisje door haar een mooie doek met daarin een paar geldstukken geknoopt aan te bieden met de woorden: Wil je ? - Als je wilt Dan heb je de knotte doek Wil je niet Dan moet je mij de knotte terug geven) Als het meisje de knoop aantrok was de zaak beklonken. De munt werd zorgvuldig bewaard. Later kwam in plaats van de doek een zilveren kistje versierd met huwelijkssymbolen met daarin de huwelijkspenningen.

Old Dutch custom. If a man loved a woman and liked to marry her he placed a douwery in this box.Gold coins. If the girl accepted the box a wedding was fourtcoming. The box stayed in the family and was used for generations to come.
