Peanuts Abroad
This is a collection of rock tracks that I've been working on over the years. Most of them are meant to be songs, but unfortunately I can`t sing very well so at the moment they are instrumental! Anyway, the music is a mixture of guitar-led rock, acoustic songs, bits of keyboards and synth, and lashes of prog rock. Influences include Led Zeppelin, Yes, Rush, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Smashing Pumpkins and The Mars Volta.

The_Downward_Spin.mp3
Written: October 2000, Sheffield; Recorded: June 2006, Carnforth, Lancs; Instruments: Guitar (Lead, Rhythm, Slide, Acoustic, 12 String), Bass, Drums; Description: An early attempt at writing a pop song. I`ve always reckoned that pop songs should be catchy, memorable, and should be over in just a few minutes. I certainly managed the latter requirement with this.

Skating_On_The_Ice_Of_A_Thin_Day.mp3
Written: October 2000, Sheffield; Recorded: June 2006, Carnforth, Lancs; Instruments: Guitar (Lead, Rhythm, Slide, Acoustic), Bass Guitar, Organ, Drums; Description: This was one of the many short tracks I wrote during the first few months I spent at Sheffield University. They have since been recorded and re-recorded on numerous occasions. This is the latest version. Quite bloozey.

Middle_Heaven.mp3
Written: October 2000; Recorded: June 2006; Instruments: Guitar (Lead, Rhythm, Acoustic, 12 String), Bass Guitar, Drums; Description: Written on the same day as The Downward Spin. This was an early attempt at finger-picking which I wasn't very good at, at the time. Also note the attempt at doing Brian May styled harmony guitars during the solo (there are seven lead parts altogether). Doesn't sound anything like him, but what can you do...

Little_Clouds.mp3
Written: December 2000; Recorded: June 2006; Instruments: Guitar (Lead, Rhythm, Acoustic), Bass Guitar, Clavinet, Fender Rhodes Piano, Organ, Drums; Description: My attempt at Stevie Wonder, to the point of me ripping off the drum beat from Superstition. The original version didn't have the keyboard parts in it at all, and sounded pretty bad. Quite happy with this one though.

Corrosion.mp3
Written: March 2000, Carnforth Lancs; Recorded: July 2006; Instruments: Guitar (Lead, Rhythm, Slide), Bass Guitar, Fender Rhodes Piano, Korg Poly 61, Solina String Ensemble, Drums; Description: A mate of mine described this as sounding like the music off a Japanese computer game. I thought it was a kind of sci-fi version of Take Five but with an extra beat to make it 6/4 time. Very prog rock and up its own arse - where music SHOULD be.

The_Eye_Like_A_Strange_Balloon_Mounts_Toward_Infinity.mp3
Written: 2000, Recorded: August 2006, Instruments: Guitar, Slide Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums, Korg Poly 61, Roland Juno 106. This one is a little mad and is quite proggy again. The big influences here are Gong and Hawkwind. Space rock. Most of the effects at the beginning are created by me running a glass slide along my guitar and putting it through tons of effects.
