Folder now deleted ...
Posted on Mar. 1 2007

I deleted the old folder due to copyright issues .....

(I was probably one of first to delete the folder after writers on esnips began to protest)

This new folder is for everyone to share views on ebooks and copyrights ...

Please be respectful to each other as there are 2 sides to every argument.

Let me be the one to start-

I own close to 800 paper back books by Avon, Signet, Ellora's cave, Mills and Boon, Harlequin, Pocket star and other popular romance publishers ... I must have paid an average of 5 to 7 UK pounds for each book (approx $12). So, I must have spent about $10,000 on books by these publishers; yet I am not allowed to share digital versions of books that I paid for and own.

I guess my sister reading my books would be infringing copyrights...

Please feel free to leave your comments...

Please stop spamming my profile. Comment here ...

This folder was especially created so everyone can write their views on ebooks and copyrights. Yet, people are going and writing on my profile page. These are the type of comments I have to put up with on my profile page after I deleted my folder 2 days ago (on the very first day the copyright issue was raised) ...

Goodness is NOT part of your personality.  You're stealing and illegally distributing copyrighted materials here and at other online locations.

selkiewife writes:
As long as you continue to illegally distribute copyrighted materials here, at Romance Pro Forum and at your Yahoo RomanceEbooks group, I can post the copyright laws.
You're the one who's doing illegal activities.

selkiewife writes:
I DARE you to write a book and find out for yourself how much HARD WORK, RESEARCH and TIME it takes to complete a 400 page manuscript.  I DARE you to spend years submitting your manuscript to agents and publishers before you can get published.
Then, after you're published, send me your royalty checks because you don't need to get paid for your work.

My reply to constant spamming of my profile

I suggest that, when you are fighting for authors across the globe, please be careful of throwing accusations at people. Everyone can threaten us about taking legal action against us for sharing ebooks. But, we can also take action against people like you for defamation.

1. Your accusation was that I had ebooks on esnips.    After the issues you raised, most of us have respectfully deleted our folders. 2. Instead of writing accusations and counter remarks in people's profile pages, I decided to open a folder where everyone could write their comments and share ideas on copyrights.    You are free to write your comments in this folder, however, you have again shown absolute disrespect by going back to my profile page and filling it with comments. 3. You made a statement : "As long as you continue to illegally distribute copyrighted materials here, at Romance Pro Forum and at your Yahoo RomanceEbooks group, I can post the copyright laws."    Anymore of such comments and you will be the one looking at legal action for defamation. I am not a member of these forums. 4. Another statement by you: "Goodness is NOT part of your personality.  You're stealing and illegally distributing copyrighted materials here and at other online locations."    Not only are you defaming, you are beginning to get pathetically personal. 5. Another one of your famous comments: "I DARE you to write a book and find out for yourself how much HARD WORK, RESEARCH and TIME it takes to complete a 400 page manuscript."    I am a writer and artist. I do understand how difficult life can be but I also know how much money is made in profits by publishing companies. So I know both sides of the story.

Out of respect for all, I removed my folder 2 days ago when you first raised the issue. I suggest that you begin the process of respect at your end as well ...

whats the use of giving us this whopping 5 gb of space if we r unable to share. and this copyright is a real pain in the a**.
esnips is becoming worthless by the day.

someone tell them that if we needed space to upload home made videos only then youtube is much better.

-looksvivek.. planning to leave esnips.

Its really irritating me that all the books have been deleted.I have so far read all the mills & boons and other genre books i like in 4 libraries.I have nowhere to go but on the internet and hope there are new books that i can read, but each time i come to a folder its been deleted because of copyright issues.I don't care about copyright i just want to read the series of books i can't get. What is wrong with that.

I agree you need to check the copyright status of any work before republishing it whether you are selling it or giving it away. The Author's you mention that are still alive would need to give their permission without this it would be a blatent breach of copyright. I was just making the point that there are many works in the public domain that can be shared without infringing anyone's copyright.

Vinny, it always pays to check on copyright. Some copyrights are held in perpetuity by the author's estate. However, the books being offered here include Nora Roberts and her alter-ego JD Robb (very much alive), Yasmine Galenorn (very much alive), Gena Showalter (very much alive), Tom Clancy, Stephen King, Douglas Adams... all of who are verymuch alive and whose copyrights are being violated. That is the point of this anti-piracy campaign.

I think it is marvelous to share your personal work! But ask yourself (generic you)... if you put your blood sweat and tears into a song, an album, a book and then someone just started giving it away, wouldn't you be angry?

Many  books are in the public domain and do not require permission to be copied and given away or resold. The project Gutenberg converts thousands of old books into ebooks.Copyright does not last forever so the authors permission is not needed when the book is very old and the author is dead.
