When John was young he was much involved in playing the violin piano and organ. As a teenager he was Assiatant Organist at Dunfermline Abbey in Fife, Scotland, and at that time that church had a 4 manual organ that had been built by Scovell in ?1911; this machine had pneumatic action that was quite noisy and a few years later it was replaced by a Willis 3 manual organ with electric action.
These recordings were made on a Grundig Tape recorder from a single microphone is this cavernous building with termendous resonance, so the sound quality leaves much to be desired! The large reels of tape were transferred to cassette in the 1990s and these in turn were digitised in 2007. Unfortunately the first bars of some of the music were lost because of the trailer on the cassette, but the sound of the Dunfermline Abbey organ has was captured, and some of these peices, played by John Morrison, are available.
