Enlightenment
Posted on Dec. 29 2007

Yesterday, just finished reading a very interesting account of a personal journey: "Sex Death Enlightenment" by Mark Matousek (Piatkus, 1996).  So today I'm posting a new piece of music called Enlightenment.  Hope you find it worth listening to.

Technical details are here: Enlightenment

And the music is here: Enlightenment

If you want to change instruments etc (flute and strings would be good), look at the MIDI file here: Enlightenment - Piano Piece 28 December 2007

And a happy, enlightened new year!

Yahya

This is a Malay song popular in the sixties, arranged by me and tuned by Jon Lyle Smith in Just Intonation (JI). This was my contribution to the first Microtonal Music Day podcast.

Hi Oswaldo!

Thanks for your comments, and glad you enjoyed Guitar Hemiole.  Your comment about noise surprised me, so I'll have a look at the MP3 with Audacity and see what it can make of it.

Best,
Yahya

Good job

i listen Guitar_Hemiole.mp3

good temps, good melody

i only recommends two thing for the one that render or mix it up.

  • remove the noise with noise reduction
  • and let 0.35 seconds of silence at start, that tie is needed for the audio cd to start running (in a traditional CD equipment)
Good luck, keep playing, and keep recording

PS my favorite kind of keyboard is the Kurzweil k26000

Dear Yahyah,

I figured out how to upload my frosty picture to eSnips.  I have a new folder called "December Leaves.  If you click on the original size, you can see the last surviving flower at the top of the pic, near the roof chimney that has a  TV aerial attached thereto. Do you remember those?  Not many survived the windy winters.

Love,
Coral

Hi Tony,

Bad luck about the fogs, eh?  So many people's holiday plans completely messed up this year.  Sad

Yep, we've been sweltering here, temperatures in the high 30s, even over 40 the other day.  So the bushfires have burnt out millions of hectares and destroyed scores of homes, and the drought is really biting hard - we go onto Stage 3 water restrictions on New Year's Day.  Boy, could we use some of your snow right now!  How about we build a pipeline to let it run "downhill" from Europe to Oz?  Luckily, it rained last night, and they have forecast the coldest Christmas and Boxing Day EVER on record, with more rain.  That's great news for the volunteer firefighters, who will get a rare chance to spend Christmas at home with their families. Happy

Real music is what moves your heart as well as your mind.  That's why I love the blues, and why rock still rocks our world.  Yes, I've written everything in this folder, except for the tune of the traditional Malay song, Bunga Seroja (Lotus Blossom).   I do play piano and keyboards, a little guitar and winds - like flutes, recorders and tin whistles, and have had a long love affair with good string playing, especially viola.  I've struggled with violins off and on, but wouldn't inflict the results on anyone Wink ...

Glad you're enjoying the music.  And just like you, I've got heaps more!  If you let me know which ones you prefer, I'll focus on putting up some similar ones.

Thanks for writing!
Yahya
