The final version of this composition (2005). Owing to problems fitting the subtleties of timing to musical notation, it exists at this time only in computer generated form (yes, that is not a real choir but a computer-generated one synthesised from samples of the singing of a real choir by the Melody Assistant program). This version has been played at a concert and conferences, and has also been used for meditation.

Click on the indicated 'Source' link to play the music using the Myriad Music Plugin, which displays the music on the screen while it is being played (you will be prompted to download the plugin from the Myriad site if it is not installed on your machine). Unless you also have installed Myriad's Gold Sound Base, the sound will not be as good as from the mp3 file in this directory.

| This shows what the editing screen of Melody Assistant (which might be described as "Sibelius at 5% of the price"!), used to create the final version of the piece, looks like. MA was particularly useful in stretching the notes to the right length (technically, the fermata effect), which is not so straightforward with just a midi sequencer.

The original 'austere' version of 1990, obtained by starting with an endlessly repeating pentad of notes and introducing variations as appropriate. This is played not very well on the piano by myself. This has been used for meditation: do not however listen while driving or operating machinery as it may cause your consciousness to become detached from the outside world. You have been warned!

The only public performance of the piece there has been by live musicians, at a conference on consciousness at Olympia, Greece, in 1992. I played a cassette of it to a friend who said she thought she could get some of the conference assistants to play it. Accordingly Elen Teles took the printed rough MS and removed notes from it till it was simple enough that she (on the oboe) and Carlos Gilles (panpipes) could play it the next day. Here is the result.
