One of the leading universities of Nigeria, a university known for outspoken intellectuals in the 1980s. The university is located in Zaria, one of the famous Hausa city states of Hausaland. It was named after the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Alhaji Sir Ahmadu Bello. The major challenge was to decolonize the curriculum and make it effective for the Nigerian development process.The late Bala Usman was one of the most influential ABU activist- intellectuals.
