Kichesipirini Algonquin First Nation UN Relations
Posted on Apr. 3 2008

April 3, 2008

Kwey

After months of communications with different United Nations bodies, including filings with International Criminal Court for investigation into the ongoing genocide of the Kichesipirini Algonquin First Nation through the application of Canadian domestic policy the Kichesipirini Algonquin First Nation, as a still sovereign indigenous nation in Canada, after refusing to leave their territory or acquiesce any rights by coming under domestic policy, has been invited to attend, the Seventh Session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.‏

We go, as is our traditional role, to represent the best interests of all our relatives, all Indigenous Peoples of Canada, honouring the spirits of our ancestors, ensuring that the Indigenous Peoples of Canada will be recognized and respected as a founding Peoples of Canada.

O Canada, oma endjibayang. Nindakimnang!

Sincerely,

Paula LaPierre

By Honouring Our Past We Determine Our Future---------Kichesipirini Algonquin First Nation

Welcome to the site of the Kichesipirini Algonquin First Nation, the traditional political centre of the Algonquin people.

Kichesipirini (meaning: "people of the great river") - Largest and most powerful group of Algonkin. Known variously as: Algoumequins de l'Isle, Allumette, Big River People, Gens d l'Isle, Honkeronon (Huron), Island Algonkin, Island Indians, Island Nation, People of the Island, Kichesippiriniwek, Nation de l'Isle, Nation of the Isle, and Savages de l'Isle. Main village was on Morrison's (Allumette) Island.

Despite our well documented history and our traditional role in diplomacy and gatekeepers of the river we have not been federally recognized.

United Nations Should Adjucate Say Stoney Point Aazhoodena.doc
The Algonquin Land Claim needs an independent intervention. The existing process is fraught with serious flaws that encourage internalized oppression and corruption. Such processes can contribute to the perpetuation of political and cultural genocide.

9 April 2008  UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples: Canadian Parliament Calls for Implementation of Critical Universal Human Rights InstrumentIndigenous peoples’ organizations and human rights groups welcome yesterday’s decision by the Canadian Parliament to endorse the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The Declaration was adopted by the UN General Assembly on September 13, 2007 in a historic vote by an overwhelming majority of member states. Canada was one of only four states to oppose the Declaration. The government of Stephen Harper has since claimed that the Declaration is not applicable in Canada. This claim has no legal basis and is unprecedented in Canada’s foreign and domestic policy. On Tuesday, April 8, the House of Commons passed a resolution to endorse the Declaration as adopted by the UN and calling on Parliament and the Government of Canada to “fully implement the standards contained therein.” “The UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples provides a road map for the reconciliation of Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada and around the world,” says Mary Simon, President Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami. “Aboriginal peoples in Canada welcome the commitment of the majority of Parliamentarians to work with us to implement urgently needed human rights standards.”

Just getting ready for trip to UN. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support and encouragement. Few groups of people are as persevering as the Kichesipirini Algonquin First Nation. W hope that through all of our efforts all Aboriginal peoples in Canada will freely enjoy their inherent rights.
