Another track by Vladeta Kandić (a.k.a. Bata Kanda), one of the greatest, coolest and funniest accordeon players ever. This is a fast, cute kolo, and the video of mister Kandić performing this kolo made me like him even more! The link is below, for those interested :)

And yes, again Shazalakaoo is featured here! Milan and Uroš (great guys, by the way!) are the names into this electronic duo from Belgrade that, among many other cool tracks of their own, came up with this cool version of Kačerac Kolo. I reccomend you people to check their myspace page for some more great music :)

This is my favourite version of one of my favourite kola, played by the accodeon master Vladeta Kandić, a.k.a. Bata Kanda (gotta love this man!). Moravac is an easy, slow kolo, great for those still learning the basic steps of the dance. For those wondering about this kolo's name, here it goes: Moravac Kolo comes from the locality of Moravac, part of the municipality of Aleksinac, in Central Serbia.

Rambo Amadeus is the stage name of the Belgrade-based Montenegrin singer/songwriter Antonije Pušić. Self-titled "musician, poet, and media manipulator", he's one of the most interesting phenomena on the music scene of the former Yugoslavia. His songs combine satirical lyrics on the nature of common people and silliness of local politics, using a mixture of musical styles, from drum'n'bass in later works to turbo-folk elements in his earlier tracks. This kolo is a fun/funny example of his work :)

Čačak, or Čačak kolo, is the name of many Shope-type dances found in Eastern Serbia, Northeastern Macedonia, and Western Bulgaria. They are characterized by their fast 2/4 metered music. Čačak dances are often referred to by the town or region from which they come. For instance, Banjski čačak (from Banjska), Godečki čačak (from Godeč), Svrljiski čačak (from Svrljig), and Zaplanjski čačak (from the Zaplanje district) are but a few of the many variants of this kind of kolo.

Like I promised below, here's Ekrem Sajdić's track, "Reka Zelja". Coming from Vranjska Banja, Ekrem Sajdić & Gypsy Groovz has been selected as the most authentic live band in the history of Guča Festival. Indian ragas, Sufi trance music, Egyptian and Armenian melodies, Turkish, Bulgarian and Macedonian patterns, a temper of Spanish flamenco, Sardinian and Dalmatian melodic polyphony and Serbian and Romanian love for variation - all that can be heard in this fantastic album, by this amazing band!

Born from the true underground, Balkanizer - a collective based in Austria - is a transnational melting pot, producing a spectrum of various musical forms. Combining tragic and wit, with groove and melody in a true Balkan style, Balkanizer is currently one of my favourite bands, always there in my DJ sets :) This track, "Tulum Zulum" is a great remix of my favourite track by Ekrem Sajdic & Gypsy Groovz, "Reka Zelja" (I promise to upload the original track by Sajdić pretty soon ;)

I came across Boukovo rather recently. This France based ensemble, "born" in 1996, is made of 6 great musicians (two women, 4 guys), that plays Bulgarian, Macedonian, Greek and Serbian folk and gypsy music with great soul and style. This track is a classic macedonian wedding song, from their highly reccomended 2002 album release "Recontres". I'll be uploading more by Boukovo real soon :)

Shazalakazoo is an electronic duo from Belgrade, composed by Milan and Uroš. They make this great, great mix of drum'n'bass and break beats with folk and gypsy music from Serbia and around, producing their own tracks. They were one of my "discoveries" in Belgrade: I was in touch with them for several months before I went to Serbia, and once I was there, I had the chance to meet them and see them live. Fantastic performance, highly reccomended!

By the austrian DJ/music producer Dunkelbunt, Morgenlandfahrt is an album inspired on the car trip he did from Vienna until the Black Sea coast, crossing the Balkans from side to side - and listening to the entire album you really feel like if you were travelling with him! This track is one of my favourites of his album, sang by my good friend Killo Killo, an MC/DJ from novi Sad, Serbia, who's also the leader of the pop reggae band Drum'n'Zez :)
