The western Indian state of Gujarat was in news for wrong reasons from the very beginning of the new millennium. On January 26,2001, when the country was celebrating the Republic Day, Gujarat was hit by an earthquake killing thousands of people. A year later, on February 27, 2002, a ghastly pogrom against Muslims was unleashed by fanatic Hindus backed by the state government forces.
How did the civil society respond to these two calamities? This was the central theme of the exhibition 'Window to Gujarat' presented at the World Social Forum meet in Mumbai in 2004.
The exhibition was organized in three parts - Introduction, Earthquake and Carnage.
