When you navigate to a graph, I recommend clicking on Original Size, the quality of the picture gets much better. |

Web Analysts have been struggling to represent web data in a friendly way to their colleagues and bosses. In an effort to help professionals and improve the standards in the field I have started this collection of Web Analytics graphs. The graphs shown in this folder should be used as examples of data visualization as well as 'what to measure' tips.
Please send your graphs (in any format) to me with a short description of their content and the techniques used to create them, and I will add them to the folder. Then, you can create a widget of any graph and show it in your blog or website.

This is a cropped image from the overlay UI that comes with Unica's web analytics solution. One thing that it enables is to overlay segments based on registered customer data. In this case for example, where did people click who had a loyalty card vs. those that don't.

This is the visualization for a funnel report in Unica's web analytics solution by the name of NetInsight. From a visual aspect, the most important thing to point out is that this funnel actually does change shape based on the data. Hence the yellow slice is so thin because few people reached that step in the funnel.

This is an Excel based, weekly updated sales funnel status. The numbers in the blue shaded areas are measures of how many people/opportunities are in each stage of the funnel at the time the report is produced. The numbers in the white areas and the arrows are the number that moved from one stage to another over the course of the reporting period. The presentation of the data steals a page right out of the book of several web analytics packages that have conversion funnel capabilities.

This report reveals the loyalty and churn rate of visitors. I use this graph to evaluate the "stickiness" of my web site, examine trends in visitors, and look at visitor retention rates. Omitted from the graph are the values on the X-axis (days of the month) and on the Y-axis (counts of the different types of visitors).

This report displays how recently and frequently visitors have viewed pages on a site. I use this report to identify content trends, optimize the content agenda, and determine what content to increase, remove, or reinvigorate. It very accurately shows "the long tail" of content. Omitted from the graph are the values on the X-axis (page views) and on the Y-axis (page titles).

This graph is a "lift curve", often used in marketing. It's the same thing as the Lorenz curve used by demographers but interpreted differently. Here, we see that Guitar pages accounted for 26% of the page views but 37% of the clicks; House pages accounted for an incremental 44% of the pages and 59% of the clicks; etc. The relative click rates are immediately clear from the steepness of the line segments.

The top graph use a 52 week rolling average to show user growth in a way less affected by seasonality, cookie deletion and the irregular sizes of months. The lower graph shows the New vs. Return Visitors compared to the 52 week rolling average to illustrate how those 2 segments impact audience growth.
