OWL-Series
Steve Lawton has me intrigued with the idea of showing a 'work-in-progress'. I have photographed lots of paintings throughout their gestation, and have decided to post this particular one. One day last spring, we were delighted to see that a miniature ( 7-8" tall!) 'Northern Saw-Whet' owl had established itself outside our big picture window. A rare sighting, and a famous symbol of GOOD LUCK, I just had to paint it.

I lied. Apparently the portrait of our little friend the OWL i s NOT finished. I had a chance to work on it some more. Really, I'm very close now, but not quite!

Wasn't it Picasso who said something to the effect,"I know when a painting is nearly finished...when I stop looking at the painting and it starts looking at me."

Shows close-up of the face. You can see that the facial feathers are becoming more refined and architectural-looking.

I finally seem to have found some time after having been on an extremely tight schedule.Had to take a look at this folder as the " Owl painting" is all I seem to hear about from Anushka !Well, I am not surprised! Excellent painting. I am amazed by the precision of the strokes and the detailing. You have mentioned it is still in the finishing process. Were it not for that comment, I would've thought otherwise

WOW!
An absolutely realistic Owl!! Loved the detailing on the bark of the tree too...its all looks so very real. One hopes one can achieve this level of artistry one day:-)

Dude your work is fantabulous! Not to mention that you're possibly the coolest looking cat i've ever seen!
I like your Picasso quote! What a clever cat! I actually think that the eyes of a portrait are the most important part!! If I can capture that little shine and glisten then it really lifts my work! I see you to have discovered the budding starlet Anushka! Painting like Picasso at the age of six! No small achievement ehh?

Hi Anushka. Thanks for your note. Today I did more work on the Owl. Thought you might like to see. I added some detail in white. It will get glazed over a bit, but you can see how much this helps.
