[----- BEWARE ----- of love of LAB. bias on mini album review ! I'ts too damn good ! :DDD]
"END OF THE WORLD" is LAB. THE BASEMENT's mini album release from two years ago in 2005. There were two releases, the second one being release 11 days after the first and containing a bonus sixth track.
The first track is "BLIND EMOTION", which begins with unique organs and light symbol tapping, quickly picking up the pace with Ao's powerful voice. Quite impactful and unique guitar lines in the song, quite addicting ! (actually, all the songs are ! ;D) Next up is "SENTIMENTAL SUICIDE", a song with guitar lines not unlike the style seen in cali gari's "Polaroid Yuugi" from "Blue Film" album, making this song my second favorite on the album. And Ao perfectly incorporates accoustic into the catchy chorus, highly recommended listen! Third song, "BUTTERFLY EFFECT", in which LAB. has some instrument I can't identify (maybe used in electric music???) but creates an amazingly handsome tune which is somewhow peaceful yet fast-paced, making the climax of "BUTTERFLY EFFECT" undeniably unforgettable.
"TOKYO DOGS" is a harder sounding song with shouting and gives the impression of power. Other than the climax of the song, it's a bit repetitive but still a good and interesting song. Second to last is the incredible song the album was named after - "END OF THE WORLD" begins with some English, then falls way to a spine tingling accoustic guitar melody. I must say that I think this song is the most thought provoking song on the mini album, cause of it's original and intense melody. The bonus track featured on the second CD release is "GOOD MORNING! HAPPY DAYS!" and is a tranquil accoustic song with a sort of melancholic yet hope-inducing feel to it, as if to say, "tomorrow will be a better day".
Every song on this CD is a MUST-LISTEN !!! This was the first CD I heard by the LAB. and made me fall head over heels in love with their music.... sadly, I only have "END OF THE WORLD" and "PIPER", and haven't been able to find the other CD's. ;_;
Anyways, Enjoy Listening !!! =]
