Ph.D. dissertation (1998). The psychology of virtual environments. Borrowed from physics to introduce a unified framework for understanding different aspects of spatial perception. Based on the framework, developed an "objective" measure for the sense of "being in" virtual environments, based on sensory conflict; a technique for reducing simulator sickness through visual background manipulations; and a technique for increasing presence with foreground occlusions.
