I am a retired teacher and one of the very early awardee of the Gold Award. I have now the time to look at volunteering now that I have relinquished my formal input to young students experiences. I have considerable practical experience with children in situations akin to the Award especially in outdoor work.

I came to your site to find out what I would need to do to be a volunteer. I have found the site in general very disorganised. You send readers from the 'leaders' to 'participants' with little or no indication of which angle you are looking at especially in topics which can be approached from both sides .... like the purpose of the scheme! I did finally find my way to the 'Learning package' but to my dismay the large obvious display took me to the tutor pack which was filled with 'in term' jargon which would put off even the hardened teacher. It is straight out of the government's QCA psycophantic attempt to control even every child's achievement.

I am still trying to find a page that outlines in a simple, easy to use description of what I need to do to become an effective volunteer / leader of what I consider to be the best experience for young people. I hope you can direct me to it before I decide the beaurocracy outways the input I could achieve to young people in my area.
