Inspired by P.J. Hammond's 'Assignment II', Thames TV's 'The Tyrant King', and personal experiences of time spent on deserted railway platforms/stations during the mid 1960s. This was improvised to minidisc, then mercifully edited down and augmented with a couple of FX, during summer 2000. Track length: 20:28

Dear Philo, Aye, this is the final version. It is harder to find deserted railway platforms - especially the old wood and gas-lamp variety. But there are still some small-town stations, in the UK, where you can find yourself completely alone at night and even - if you are lucky - during the day. Actually, there are quite a few, dotted about that don't look that much different from the way they did during the 1950s and 60s... but one's sensations of isolation and vulnerabilty are now more to do with potential threat from the living rather than those perhaps imagined supernatural forces of old. Hope you do get to hear this in full, alone... and in the dark. Cheers! ~ BG |
